Fountains of Hope is assembling a team to install unique, simple water purification systems to help with the Cholera Outbreak in Haiti that began on October 22, 2010 just north of Port au Prince.
Cholera is a waterborne disease that is caused by raw sewage getting into the water supply.
Fountains of Hope is raising $15,000-20,000 to take 3-4 water purifier systems on Sunday, October 31st or possibly November 7th after funding is raised.
This is a small, organized team that I have personal contacts with and have communicated with numerous times. They are highly effective, use local support, and their simple water purification systems take nothing more than a cup of salt (very cheap in 3rd world countries), water and a 12 volt battery to make chlorine. Chlorination is the only disinfection technology that effectively disinfects from the point of introduction all the way through the piping system to the tap as well as storage containers. This eliminates all forms of mold and bacteria.
The Fountains of Hope purifiers have been used worldwide for over 10 years. Over 2000 purifiers have been installed in over 60 countries. They do not have any moving parts and therefore do not wear out. The only expendable item is the car battery and ordinary table salt, which are both purchased on ground. The battery usually lasts two years. Some of the purifiers have lasted 10 years! Most will be working for at least 3-5 years.
Because Fountains of Hope is a smaller organization, they have not setup online payments coming from outside of the US. There are two ways to donate to this amazing initiative and see your money in immediate action – in order of preference:
1. Mail a cheque to me personally so I can track totals and know who is supporting the cause – I will then transfer all funds to Fountains of Hope via the Director’s (Bill Farrar) personal PayPal account. In turn, Bill will email me receipt that he has transferred those funds into the Fountains of Hope account. Please include your email address & your home address.

The needs of this devastated country are great. It is a country of children that have been living without basic human rights like clean water for years upon years. Even a small amount will serve to be a drop in the bucket that will VERY soon ensure that that bucket flows clean, safe, drinkable water for thousands of people.
